Outstanding musical event

To mark of the centenary of the birth of the composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), the Orchestre national de France conducted by Yutaka Sado, a disciple of Bernstein, performed the Symphony No. 3 "Kaddish" on March 18, 2018 in the auditorium of Radio-France.

The musical work was performed with the libretto that the composer had asked his friend Samuel Pisar (1929-2015) - one of the youngest survivors of the Holocaust who became adviser to John F. Kennedy in 1961 and who never ceased to build bridges between nations through his activities as an international lawyer and an advisor to governments.

This ecumenical text entitled "A Dialogue with God" was narrated by his wife Judith Pisar, UNESCO Special Envoy for Cultural Diplomacy, and Leah Pisar-Haas, President of the Aladdin Project.

Few musical works of the symphonic repertoire could better illustrate the Aladdin Project's missions than Bernstein's "Kaddish", the text of which had been asked by the composer to my father, Samuel Pisar.

This "Dialogue with God" carries in itself the values of our organization. Launched in 2009 under the patronage of UNESCO by Jacques Chirac, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, Gerhard Schroeder, Abdoulaye Wade, Simone Veil and David de Rothschild, the Aladdin Project's mission is to teach the universal lessons of the Holocaust in the Arab-Muslim area, to promote intercultural relations and to fight against Holocaust denial, anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia.

Seventy years after the Holocaust, while its last direct witnesses are disappearing and the world is ready to burst into flame again, the relevance of my father's libretto remains unchanged.

How many times has he told me of the need to warn future generations of all races, colours and beliefs - and especially those who pray to the same Abrahamic God - against the dangers that lie in wait again?

It is to highlight this duty of vigilance that we have chosen to associate the Aladin Project with this concert.
