Dr. Aly El-Samman, Tireless Campaigner for Peace, Passes Away

Dr. Aly El-Samman, a tireless advocate for peace and the rapprochement of cultures and religions, has passed away. The Board of Directors of the Aladdin Project expresses its sincere condolences to his wife, Brigitte, to their family and to the Egyptian people.

Former advisor to President Anwar El Sadat of Egypt and President of the International Union for Intercultural and Religious Dialogue and Peace Education (ADIC), Aly El-Samman, "a man for all seasons,” was a politician, journalist, business advisor, and a pioneer in interfaith dialogue. His autobiography, "Egypt, from One Revolution to Another: Memoirs of an Engaged Citizen under Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak" (published in French by Editions du Rocher), opens a unique window on the contemporary history of his great country, and shows the influence and wisdom of this visionary man.

Aly El-Samman joined the Board of Directors of the Aladdin Project from its inception in 2009, and after completing two terms, he joined our Committee on Conscience. By actively participating in the intellectual development of the Aladdin Project, Aly El-Samman demonstrated his deep commitment to promoting intercultural relations, especially between Jews and Muslims.

We lose a companion, a committed supporter and an irrepressible voice for dialogue, peace and friendship among peoples. Let his memory continue to guide us.
